Video analysis sacha stavenson-Enaknya jadi orang Indonesia menurut bule (it’s nice being Indonesian).

Helloooo! It’s been a long time. I was busy with all of my assignment. Actually I feel depressed during this semester. Woaaah I really need a holiday! Hehehe. But it’s ok. I just watching some movies and also some youtube video randomly to make me a little bit relax. I just watching a youtube video and It is from Sacha stavenson- Enaknya jadi orang Indonesia menurut bule (It’s nice being Indonesian). Her content is about her opinion about indonesian as a foreign who live in Indonesia and as Indonesian we should proud of our country more than her.
She is canadian and she’s married to Indonesian men. She can speak a little bit Indonesian and it’s fluent enough. Also she mixed the language with English in all of her youtube videos include the video that I seen before. Ater watching this video, suddenly I remember about my sociolinguistic course. She use mixed language and it’s remind me about code-switching and code-mixing chapter in sociolinguistic materials. Here’s several example.

·         SS : After that maybe go the Sting concert. Buka internet, cari tiket murah. Ooh you
got a promo ticket, three hundred thousand. Awesome! (01:10 – 01:17)
·         SS :  Honestly, I have no idea. Kenapa orang Indonesia saking banyak buang waktu
dengan basa-basi, dan kondangan sini sana. (04:28 – 04:37)
It’s called Inter-sentential Code Switching because she change the language in different sentence as can be seen. She really feel grateful because In indonesia everyone can get opportunity to get a ticket with a low price in Internet. Moroever, she also used Intra-sententia or also known as code-mixing. It can happen in word, phrase, and clause. Speaker can put another language within a sentence.
·         SS: And then get very disgusted because you really like tupai. (02:19 – 02:22) -------> Word
·         SS: Then, meet somebody who brings you to a lapangan besar sekali ganja semua.
(01:32 – 01:36) --------> Clause
Actually in this video there’s a lot example of types of code-switching and It’s really need a looooonngggg explanation to write them in this blog HAHAHAHAHA. Hope you’ll find it and I suggest you to watch this video.

Good Morning! After you read all of my review about first journal, So i’ll show you the differences and the similarities between the first journal and the second journal i’ve reviewed before.

First journal : Developing the Students’ English Speaking Ability Through Impromptu Speaking Method by A Lumettu and T L Runtuwene.

Second journal : A Study Of Student’s Speaking Skill Through Vlog By Amelia Sri Rahayu And Vina Nurviyani.

NO
ASPECT
JOURNAL 1
JOURNAL 2
1
Introduction(background of journal)
The researchers write this journal because they think that speaking skill is important because with speaking we can communicate each other. Moreover, English is tool of international communication and used for many purposes in human life. Furthermore, to develop speaking skill we can use impromptu speaking method.
The researchers think that many student are nor interested in learning speaking because their teacher used boring method.  We are in technology era, so we should use technology to develop student’s speaking skill and make them interesting in learning speaking. For example by using vlog.
2
Theoretical
  • ·         Skinner says:”teaching is a process of giving the students experience in creative understanding”.
  • ·         Alexander says:” The great majority of overseas students learning English are primarily interested in speaking the language”.
  • ·         According to Collins English Dictionary, impromptu is applied to that which is spoken, made or in te spur of the moment to suit the occasion and stressed spontaneity”.
  • ·         Gagne defines that “ media are various components in learner’s environtment which support the larners learn”.
  • ·         According to Vernon, there are six kinds of instructional media: Drawing or teacher mode drawings, still pictures, audio recording, motion picture and TV, real object, programmed and computer-assisted instruction.

3
Method
  •  This research used qualitative research.
  • Location : Tourism Departement
  • Participant : 20 students
  • Sources of data : actions, words, and others are additional such as document etc.
  • Instrument: Researchers as a planners, executors, data collectors, data analysis, and interpreters, also discussers, and reporters of the data.
  • Data collecting technique : observation,interview, documentation
  •   Data analysis : data reduction, data presentation, conclusion.
  • This research used qualitative research
  •    Location : Vocational high school student of X TKJ Grade B
  •   Participant: 20 students ( 15 female, 5 male )
  • Instrument : Classroom observation,interview, and questionaire.
  •   Data analysis: there are several different steps to do data analysis from each instrument.
4
Disscussion and result
20 participant devided into 2 group. Impromptu group and memorization grup. From the result of the research we know that students in impromptu group were more successful than memorization group. It can be seen from the result in pre-test and post-test. the impromptu group has significant score.
  • In classroom observation showed that sudents enthusiastic during learning process and students tel their stories confidently in their vlog.
  • The strengthness of using vlog is students more confident in speaking and can mpre concentrate when speaking practice.
  • The weakness is student have to through several steps to create a good vlog, the students should have adequate facilities.
  • Student response : respon from the students were positive . It can be seen from the student’s attitude durong hte learning process.
5
Conclusion
  •          The impromptu group was better in speaking such as more fluently and naturally
  •         The memorization group mostly failed because the nervous and in they forget one sentence it makes them forget the whole text.
The implementation of using vlog as a instructional media of learning English has more strengthness than the weakness. Students also give positive response such as looks enthusiastic and interseted in learning speaking.

Similarities :
  • Both of researcher are looking for the method that apropriate to develope speaking skill in interesting ways.

  •   Both of researchers using qualitative method

  •   The participant of both research are 20 participants.

  • The result of this research is good and positive so it can be applied in language teaching especially in English language.

Review methodology : A Study Of Student’s Speaking Skill Through Vlog By Amelia Sri Rahayu And Vina Nurviyani

A Study Of Student’s Speaking Skill Through Vlog By Amelia Sri Rahayu And Vina Nurviyani

Good day everyone! In the previous review, I already tell you about the theoretical from this journal. So, I’ll continue to review research methodology. Happy reading ^_^
METHOD
In this research, the method that researchers used is the qualitative method. Why they choose the qualitative method? Because this research focused on the study of a case that is a process of learning speaking by using vlog. Moreover, this research also focused on the issue of particular phenomena, which has internal validity and contextual understanding, rather that generalizability and comparability.
PARTICIPANT
The participant of this research is students in vocational high school. Student of X TKJ B grade and selected based on their ability and background. They have a lack of confidence and tend to be afraid when practiced speaking in the class. So this is the reason why the researchers choose that student for their participant. Furthermore, there are 20 participants consist of 15 female and 5 male.
INSTRUMENT
The researchers used 3 instruments to collect the data.
1.      Classroom observation
Classroom observation was conducted to get the information directly and observe the student as the participant in the classroom in the real situation. The researchers involved in the class as non-participant.

2.      Interview
15 questions are given to the participant. Question 1-5 about how the process of speaking learning using the vlog. Question 6-10 about the strength and weakness of implementation in learning speaking through vlog. Question 11-15 about student’s responses in speaking learning through vlog.
3.      Questionaire

This researcher used the open-ended questionnaire in order to give the participants the freedom to give their opinions. The questionnaire consists of 15 questions in Indonesian.
DATA ANALYSIS
There are several steps to analysis the data from observation, interview, and questionnaire.
1.      Classroom observation
-          Researchers record all activities that occur during the learning activities in the note book.
-          Researchers transcribed all activities in detail in the form of table
-          Researchers make some comments from the transcribed in a form of table
-          Researchers analysis and interpreted the data
2.      Interview
-          Researchers record the interview with smartphone recorder.
-          Researchers transferred audio to the computer in order to make listening and transcript data easier.
-          Researchers listens to the audio carefully
-          Researchers made codification in the form of table
-          Researchers analyzed and interpreted the data
-          Researchers conclude the data of interview
3.      Questionnaire
-          Researchers share the questionnaire to the participant
-          Student answer the questionnaire
-          Researchers transcribed the entire of questionnaire
-          Researchers made codification in the form of table
-          Researchers analyzed and interpreted the data
-          Researchers conclude the data from the questionaire

Review literature review A STUDY OF STUDENTS 'SPEAKING THROUGH VLOG SKILLS by Amelia Sri Rahayu and Vina Nurviyani

Hello welcome back to my blog ^ _ ^ today I will review the journal entitled A STUDY OF STUDENTS 'SPEAKING THROUGH VLOG SKILLS by Amelia Sri Rahayu and Vina Nurviyani let's start with the literature review. Literature review is a description of the theory, findings, and other research material obtained from reference materials to be used as the basis of research activities to develop a clear framework of thinking from the formulation of the problem to be studied.
The use of Vlog as Media in Learning Speaking
According to Nunan (cited from Astuti, 2013) teaching speaking means teaching and learning styles, using words and sentences, intonation patterns, and rhythm of the second language, how appropriate words and sentences according to the proper social , setting, audience, situation and subject matter, to organize their thoughts in a meaningful and logical sequence, using language as a mean of expressing values and judgments, using the language quickly and unnaturally confident, which is called as fluency. Teaching speaking means teaching communication and everything about speaking to students in detail, from the address to the most difficult.
Many media can be used to facilitate students' speaking skills. The media is usually called instructional media. According to Vernon (1996, cited in Ruis, Muhyidin, Waluyo, 2009), there are six kinds of instructional media: (1) Drawing or teacher mode drawings, (2) Still pictures, (3) Audio recording. (4) Motion picture and TV, (5) Real object, (6) Programmed and computerassisted instruction. Vlog is included in motion picture and TV category. Vlog is a video recording presented in a moving image from live action. Objects may be normal and edited for abbreviated or high lighting. It can be silent or having audio.
Vlogs offer good and personal sites for people to practice the target languages (Rakhmanina and Kusumaningrum, 2017). Since vlogging is mostly oral, speaking is the major component. It is supported by Christian (2009), he explains that personal vlog comprises a head-on close-up shot and the vlogger looks at the camera to discuss the details about their life and recent happenings in their life. Vlog has some advantages, such as vlog help students to improve their English speaking skills, students do better on storytelling, expressing ideas, and others, students could also be involved in the vlog as project assignment (Rakhmanina and Kusumaningrum, 2017). This vlog project assignment fosters their personal communication skill on foreign languages. Vlog in learning speaking has some weaknesses for some students, especially low motivated students. They are difficult to collaborate with, their ideas, thoughts and feelings, they tend to be knowledgeable from their teacher, they lack awareness, courage and to join the learning activity (Rakhmanina and Kusumaningrum, 2017).
Inadequate facilities also become the weakness of learning speaking by using vlog (Rakhmanina and Kusumaningrum, 2017). Students must have computers or smartphones to create and upload vlogs. To upload a vlog it requires a good internet connection. The content of students' vlogs are a narrative text made by the students themselves. It is supposed by Anderson and Anderson (2003a) to explain that a narrative is a
text that tells a story and, in doing so, entertains the audience. From the explanation above, the narrative text describes an experience, which its social function is to amuse or entertain the audience with the story.

Thank your for reading ^_^.
